The Company

SAE BACKGROUND INFORMATION

SAE: (Southam Automotive Engineering) has two distinct sides of its business. The first is the engineering and inspection side which caters for Department of Transport inspection, testing and reports relating to vehicle modifications, upgrades and imports. The second side specialises in the construction, sale and engineering of ICVs (Individually Constructed Vehicles). SAE operates from twinned 250m2 factory units in Willetton Western Australia. Managing director Terry Southam (MIE Aust. CPEng.) and associate Kym Carter have a long association with the specialist vehicle industry going back to the first import of a Westfield SE kit in 1986 and the subsequent licensed building in Australia. They have expertise in component manufacture and vehicle assembly including technical analysis and production of engineering reports required for registration purposes. For more information contact Southam Automotive Engineers on 0417811044 or email info@southam.com.au.

In line with our current business plan we are aiming to be a one stop service for all those intending to construct an ICV whether it be home designed and built or whether it is a purchased production kit. As such our range of kits has expanded for solely RTR products which is our number one line to the range of kit producers as mentioned below. This side of the Business will in future be known as The Kit Car Centre

RTR (Road Track Race) have the rights to manufacture and sell MEV products worldwide. Their sales and manufacturing facility is located very near the MEV facility in Nottingham UK. SAE have a sales agreement with RTR to develop for and sell RTR products in Australasia.

MEV: (Mills Extreme Vehicles) is a UK-based manufacturer and supplier of specialist automobiles and components. Operating from production facilities in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, MEV designs and develops a range of vehicles with both petrol and electric power plants under a design philosophy that embraces innovation and eschews what founder Stuart Mills describes as “today’s mundane vehicle offerings”.

Great British Sports Cars (GBS): This is a kit car company that has been around for many years and was formally known as Robin Hood Sports Cars and they specialised in low cost versions of the Lotus or Caterham lookalike kits that they were famous for. Recently taken over by new owners and renamed GBS they have invested greatly in developing their narrow and wide chassis independent suspension kits. We are pleased that we are now able to develop and offer these products to the Australian market.

Sylva Kits: The Riot and J15 car kits from Sylva are also recent additions to our range of kit products. We are able to offer these kits through our association with Andrew Baker who has become the Australian Agent. Initially we assisted Andrew in the development of the Riot in order to ensure road registration here in Western Australia. Now we have joined forces in order to develop the range of Sylva kits for the Australian market.

JBA Falcon: This kit needs no introduction to the Australian market as it has been in production and for sale here for many years. Our in house colleague Kym Carter is the present owner of the business and as such we are able to offer a full range of services and products for these vehicles.
